Shanghai Institute Of Optics Makes Progress in Research On Nd-doped Strontium Lanthanum-magnesium Aluminum Lanthanum Laser Crystals

Neodymium (ND3+) ions are one of the common activated ions, and their absorption peaks match the emission wavelengths of commercial (LDs) with high absorption efficiencies, with emission peaks at 0.9, 1.05, and 1.35 μm, and the laser emission has been obtained in a variety of substrate materials. broadening, which is favorable for generating lasers of different wavelengths.

 

To investigate its tuning properties, the team grew Nd:ASL crystals with a doping concentration of 5%, and measured its fluorescence lifetime to be about 371.8 μs. The fluorescence spectrum has four strong and continuous emission spectra around 1.05 μm. A birefringent filter was inserted into the V-shaped resonant cavity for tunable laser experiments, and laser outputs at three independent wavelengths (1050, 1062, and 1074 nm) were obtained by employing output mirrors with transmittances of 5%, 7%, and 10%. The wavelengths were tuned in the ranges of 1049.59-1054.43 nm and 1059.71-1078.18 nm, and the tuning widths were greater than 20 nm, which were in good agreement with the spectra. The multi-wavelength laser output phenomenon was also observed in the experiment. The results indicate that the Nd:ASL crystal is a suitable gain medium for tunable , and it is much easier to control and change the wavelength than only a single-wavelength laser medium, which is suitable for complex application scenarios with higher precision or more wavelengths.
